The piano's history is not over. It stays as rich as its beginnings, when during Bach's century, the great Cristofori invented an instrument qualified as "harpsichord which plays piano or forte" by the Medicis. The piano synthetise a past, shaped by majors historical and social mutations. A story formed with unbeatable personnalities such as Liszt, Thalberg, Chopin and so many more.
It is an illusion to think this dynamic is over. This instrument is constantly defied nowadays : out of tune, prepared, graft, dissected, exhibited, virtualized, it anticipates the visions os it's creators again.
Pianos, pianos is supported by la Bibliothèque musicale La Grange-Fleuret, formerly Médiathèque Musicale Mahler, who keeps collections constituted by prestigious pianists : Cortot, Lefébure, Long, Gianoli, Helffer, Engerer…
The festival can testify of this double story : the story of the instrument, and the one about the repetory. A pleiad of bold interprets, such as Alain Planès, Claudia Chan, Claudine Simon, Maroussia Gentet, Jean-Pierre Collot, Ralph van Raat..., will renew our perception of the link between a score written by Walter in 1792 and a piece from today tought as a piano machine.
Before the festival, the Bibliothèque musicale La Grange-Fleuret, dedicated to sharing knowledges, will propose in its walls actions of sensitization linked to this programming : performance workshop, digital exhibition, meetings ...
