As L’Annonce faite à Marie opens we discover a domestic drama of sorts revolving around love rivalry between two sisters. However, Violaine, the elder, struck by physical decline after kissing a leper, withdraws from the world to better approach it and by unsuspected course come to her sister’s aid. Claudel has the intuition of an « opera of words » and the reality of a «drama of a soul possessed by the supernatural». In order to offer this piece to theatre demands in our time an almost imperceptible balancing between the word and the story, between the story and the meaning, between the meaning and the music. This is why I asked the composer Camille Rocailleux to create, around the piece a score for voice, for the actors, and for instruments, two cellos and a keyborad. To work on the confrontation between rough and down to earth poetry and the presence of lyricism marked by carnal and mystical passion.
