We are not talking about adapting La Bohème, even less about transposing the argument or the plot into present time. We are talking about getting the grips, about looking for the right angle, the right distance, in short, about feeling our way along. It is impossible to undertake a « remake » of La Bohème without telling about this groping, without telling the story of a relation that does not know what it looks for and even to what it is related. Thus we will need to draw closer and to step back, to be inside as if that’s where we have always been, and outside as if La Bohème were for ever inaccessible. From in between these two points of view another Bohème should appear - both present and distant, foreign and familiar, but of our time. A Bohème that becomes Mimi, taking the name of its main character, wandering/wondering around the mystery that it conceals.
