Nelisiwe Xaba / Uncles & Angels

This year Paris Festival d’Automne has dedicated an important part of its program to South-African artists in order to mark the cross-season project initiated by France and South Africa.  The shows that will take place at Bouffes du Nord propose an astonishing trip across South-African culture that combines tradition and modernity ranging from Zulu choirs of KwaZulu-Natal (with the White Birds male choir and that of the women from Ngono village – first time on stage in Europe), to the music of a young jazzman Kyle Shepherd, who explores the spirit of his city Cape town, to Nelisiwe Xaba, a choreographer who questions the subversion of a cultural heritage with her Reed Dance, celebrating the preservation of young girls’ virginity.
