Pierre Hantaï
Pierre Hantaï was born in 1964 became passionate about Bach’s work at about ten years of age. Under the guidance of Gustav Leonhardt, he began studying the harpsichord alone at first and then under the direction of Arthur Haas. Very soon he started to give his first concernts alone or with his brothers Marc and Jerome. He studied for two years with Gustav Leonhardt in Amsterdam, who then invited him to play for him. During the following years he collaborated with numerous musicians and conductors like Philippe Herreweghe, the Kuijken brothers, François Fernandez, Marc Minkowski and Philippe Pierlot. These days he most often plays as a soloist throughout the world. He is often invited by Jordi Savall and he also likes to join his brothers and friends, Amandine Beyer, Hugo Reyne, Sébastien Marq, Skip Sempé, Olivier Fortin or Jean-Guihen Queyras, to play chamber music. Recently he has reconstituted the ensemble he had formed during the 1980s, the French Concert, to produce the suites, concertos and cantates of Bach. From his rich discography stand out his last recordings for Mirare : the Goldberg Variations, the First Book of the Well-Tempered Clavier by Jean Sebastien Bach, three volumes of sonatas by Scarlatti, a Franćois Couperin recital and a programme of orchestra suites by Bach with the French Concert.
