Dernier volet du portrait consacré à Pierre-Yves Macé, ce concert reprend, dans une version cinématographique, Ear to Ear, fresque électronique d’après The Waste Land de T. S. Eliot – présentée du 25 septembre au 6 octobre à l’église Saint-Eustache. Puis, dans les Notes pour les diapasons invisibles, chants d’oiseaux et instruments sur scène convergent peu à peu, en une polyphonie illusoirement naturaliste.
Ear to Ear est une lecture de The Waste Land, un chœur polyglotte de dix voix enregistrées et transformées : homme ou femme, actrice, acteur ou non, au timbre juvénile ou vieillissant. Ce chœur, que Pierre-Yves Macé écrit avoir cherché à rendre aussi mixte et cosmopolite que possible, adopte les structures du poème et déploie ses images dans un montage embrasant le discontinu. Ce concert en propose non plus l’« installation » donnée du 25 septembre au 6 octobre en l’église Saint-Eustache, mais une version diffusée sur deux haut-parleurs, pour une séance mettant l’accent sur le lien entre l’image et le son. La vidéo réalisée par Oscar Lozano fait apparaître le poème d’Eliot à l’écran, en lettrages variés, et l’anime en une composition faisant écho à la musique. Entre paysage sonore et polyphonie de boucles et de ritournelles, les Notes pour les diapasons invisibles sont, elles, confiées à l’électronique et à un effectif sans instrumentation définie, à la manière de Frederic Rzewski. Créée à partir d’un large corpus d’enregistrements de chants d’oiseaux, l’électronique joue sur les vitesses et scrute les seuils instables, nouant avec l’instrumental une relation faite de convergences et de déphasages. Pierre-Yves Macé engage ici l’humain et l’animal enregistrés dans de multiples et saisissantes interactions.
