The Woman Destroyed

Simone de Beauvoir / Hélène Fillières / Josiane Balasko

Duration: 1:05

Direction Hélène Fillières

With Josiane Balasko

The floor is given to a woman, devastated, shattered, whose revenge takes the shape of a monologue. She lets her rage burst forth, and with it surface the painful memories and their share of guilt.  Alone on a New Year’s Eve, when everyone blindly indulge in their emotional and social comfort; when the customary habit of keeping quiet is no longer possible, she can scream about it and stand against this violent idea of happiness that the world imposes on us.

This woman is Josiane Balasko, « this straightforward, intrepid little woman of integrity », as Beauvoir describes her. A rough actress who does not simper to seduce nor to arouse compassion.  A woman of character.  Uncompromising. « A real woman who doesn’t play games ». Deeply moving, she buries her sensitivity.  As if lowering her guard could make her more vulnerable.  A score in the form of a self-portrait.
