Where I go at night
Jeanne Desoubeaux
Free adaptation of Orpheus and Eurydice by Christoph Willibald Gluck
Stage direction Jeanne Desoubeaux
With Jérémie Arcache, Benjamin d'Anfray, Cloé Lastère, Agathe Peyrat
Orpheus is a musicien. Eurydice, his wife, is a nymph. At their wedding day, she's bitten by a snake and dies instantly. Orpheus is desperate, but he's allowed by the gods to pick her up in hell. The only condition is that they must not look in each other's eyes. Orpheus fails, he looks at Eurydice, and she dies for a second time.
The Gluck's opera (1762) has the power of masterpieces, of those who says the essentiel. The music describes with accuracy the void of the loss. It's for me, today, an opera about grief, breaking, and falling out of love.
But tommorow it's gonna be desbribing something else. Orpheus and Eurydice speaks to us in every moment of our life, indefinitely, over and over. This is this strength that i wish to share with a public, with joy, humor, generosity, without heaviness, with the simplicity close to what makes our lives, between tragedies and lightness
