Tenderness is thought as a dyptich of Disobeying, our last creation.
The girls from Disobeying were supposed to lie to others, to liberate themselves from family, tradition, and society's injuctions ...
The boys from Tenderness must often lied to themselves to feel they belong to the "men's group", to match a certain idea of masculine.
In the continuity of Disobeying, we continue to work with the writers Alice Zeniter and Kevin Keiss, and this time we met the youngs men. With them, we opened a field of questions, about their relation with masculinity, virility, and the way they act in their private sphere or social sphere, to mix intimacy and politics. "How to be a good guy today ? What are their role models ? Their legacy ? Their community's expectations ? Which relationship have they with money, love, drugs, sexuality ? Their fragility ? How to bund intimate life and work ? How to stop competition between men ? From pressure to success ? How to deal with fatherhood ?"
There was decisives meetings with some of them : they came from Congo, Picardie, Comores ... From Hip-hop to classical danse ... Each in their way, they interrogate their education ; they wonder about expectations for men, about this strong identity based on performance, strenght, domination.
Through those pieces of thoughts, of memories, of rebellions or nostalgia, mixed with stories we elaborate with writers, we wish to share the stories of those men, strugling with masculine's clichés ; the story of this generation fighting with society's injunctions, the wishes of tradition and the consequences of patriarchy.
We think that maybe, with the acceptation of our vulnerabilty, with the permission to cry, the consolation, as in the claim of equality between men and women - that is the key of the self reinvention
