The House of Bernarda Alba
Can we imagine a play that ends with « Silence ! » ? In rural Spain at the dawn of Franco’s reign, Federico
García Lorca takes us into the heart of an oppressive drama in which the wish
to live and the wish to die meet and overlap.
Bernarda Alba, whose terrible femininity condemns to confinement all
those that surround her, is in the center of this play. Around her - her court,
her young noblewomen, her prisoners. Around them, the House, the real character
that squeaks, plays and amplifies the sounds of the imprisonment. The House is
the music: the House will be the sound setting of this drama. In white, black
and the obligatory red, a dance of love and death.
