Le violon est l’un des rares instruments que l’on puisse emmener avec soi quand il faut tout abandonner. Il est aussi le compagnon le plus exigeant, celui qui ne pardonne pas un écart de conduite. En 1923, Eugène Ysaÿe imagine de concentrer tout le savoir de son instrument en six sonates pour violon seul. Chacune porte le nom de l’un de ses prestigieux confrères. Dédiée à Fritz Kreisler, la Quatrième Sonate est un monument non seulement de virtuosité, mais aussi un hommage à la musique viennoise que David Grimal connaît à merveille. Écoutez ces cinq danses dans la Deuxième Partita de Bach, écrite deux siècles plus tôt. Comment obtenir une telle intensité expressive, tant nous raconter, avec quatre cordes seulement ? Le pianiste Itamar Golan rejoint David Grimal dans la Première Sonate pour piano et violon de Prokofiev. Cette oeuvre passionnée, tendue comme un arc, glaçante au lendemain de la Seconde Guerre mondiale naît des profondeurs de la terre pour chanter l’espérance en des jours meilleurs.
