La période d'exploitation au Théâtre est terminée.
For its fourth edition, Worldstock festival continues to explore the music of the worlds and presents a new selection of ten artists. These cross-genres creatives navigate tradition and modernity; they know, whilst sticking to traditions, how to shake up codes and to play with a lively contemporary music. Hence emerges in the course of the editions a family of artists whose music promotes a dialogue with the worlds around us: these worlds' infinite treasures will be happily probed during ten nights!
The Mendoza Orkesta will open this fourth edition with a nod to the day of the dead celebrated in Mexico in early November. This ensemble led by Sergio Mendora, multi-instrumentalist from the Calexico, breathes new life into Mambo, Cumbia, Merengue with a psychedelic touch. Rodrigo Amarante's Brasilian saudade will then develop into a dreamlike folk, before percussionist Sarathy Korwar displays his blending of the Sidi community's traditional music (India), jazz and electronic music on stage. As for the zealots of Columbian underground music, the Meridian Brothers will reinterpret Latino rhythms with an irresistible humour.
We will then listen to Tunisian singer Emel Mathlouthi, revealed by her involvement in the Tunisian spring, with an eagerly awaited second opus. The Festival also features Melingo, a mythical figure and husky chant from Buenos Aires suburbs; Andrea Motis, the utmost jazzwoman from Barcelona, who will offer a preview showing of her new album, to be released by the mythical Impulse label; singer and cellist Leyla McCalla with a multicultural songs, putting down roots in New Orleans' atmosphere –where she lives – and in her native Haiti.
