Kery James

« With a duty to be truthful, I'm careful what I do with the talent that I've inherited. » A rare writer whose talent is recognised as extraordinary, Kery James takes the risk on this occasion, of exposing his realist poetry accompanied solely be acoustic instruments. His real name is Alix Mathurin and with Haitian origins, he comes from Pointe-à-Pitre in Guadeloupe. His first success was in 1998 when he took the stage name of Kery James and became the bard of widespread revolt and protest. Now turning his talents towards a form of humanism which denounces the tricks of the rap scene which misleads young people, Mathurin (who can also pride himself with film clips made by the director Mathieu Kassovitz), is also able to surprise his audience by signing a duo on his album with Charles Aznavour, “In the shadows of show business”. A familiar face to platinum discs and overheated rap concert halls, Kery James aspires to finding new ways of transmitting his message as much as he intends to share it with different audiences.
